Meet the Author & Illustrator
Stevi Brown is an environmental scientist, illustrator, and field researcher from Grays Harbor County, Washington. She holds degrees and certificates in Mycology and Geographic Information Systems, with academci work centered on forest ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest. Most of her experience comes from time spent in the field—collecting data, mapping habitats, and studying local fungal diversity.
Drawing her observations became a way for her to slow down and notice the small details and surrounding patterns of fungi—like where they grow, how they’re shaped, and when they appear—that help show what makes each species unique. This book grew out of that hands‑on learning process, and her illustrations reflect close observation, time spent in local habitats, and a desire to share what she finds with others.
Stevi works in the behavioral sciences by day, and when she’s not working, she’s usually spending time with her kids, exploring the woods, playing her drums, or creating nature inspired art. This online platform is a cumulative effort to share her artwork with a wider audience and to continue following her interests in a community‑oriented way—connecting people to the local ecosystems in the PNW and along the Olympic Peninsula through both art and science.
